Peter de Boer Counselling and Psychotherapy
Individual Therapy. Sometimes we need to talk. Sometimes it’s as simple as that. Counselling provides that space. A space that’s yours and a space that’s confidential. We may have challenging times such as work change, loss, relationship breakdowns, illnesses and sometimes they can lead to very difficult, challenging, complex circumstances, as well as challenging thoughts and emotions. Counselling provides a space to talk and to help you guide a journey through it. Psychotherapy is a little bit more. This is where you can explore some of the patterns in your life, for example, maybe you have had some difficulties that have stayed with you over time such as challenging events from your childhood or early adult life such as trauma. Psychotherapy can also help when we have begun to rely on unhelpful habits or addictions. We can discuss a package of support tailored to your needs and make appointments at times that suit you. I suggest we start with six sessions. Six sessions may be enough, but also they could be the building base for some more in-depth work. I’m happy to create a plan around your needs. Each session lasts for around 50 to 55 minutes.
Couples’ Counselling. I offer a set format based on Systemic Therapy. Systemic therapy is a type of psychotherapy that looks at people in the context of their relationships and the systems they belong to, rather than focusing solely on the individual. It’s based on the idea that our personal experiences and challenges are often shaped by and connected to the dynamics of our relationships with others. I offer both parties individual time and then time together.
Clinical supervision. This is for counsellors and psychotherapists whom require supervision in their clinical roles. My supervision also extends to people working in stressful and complex jobs who might need some non-managerial supervision to help them navigate a way through. I am qualified to supervise on-line and face to face.
Walk and Talk. As mentioned in my bio, I’m a qualified mountain leader so I am happy to discuss the possibility of walking and talking as well. I know various peaceful locations in the Gwent area where we could meet for a two hour session. This may suit people that that find one to one, face to face meetings challenging or intimidating.
